But when it gets cold, I finally — this is only my 12th winter in the Gulch — have a full set of cold weather kit. I have a plastic-and-carbon-fiber foot, and they used to wear out socks at an appalling rate. Came as quite a revelation when it finally occurred to me that: So now I only wear a sock on the foot that can tell the difference. It was kind of like that with that pair of great Sorel boots my neighbors gave me last winter… I originally borrowed the WASR because it has an Ultimak rail where the upper handguard is supposed to be. A Generous Reader sent me a long eye relief scope, and this resulted in what I like to imagine is the most peculiar-looking functional AK on the North American continent… It actually worked pretty well for me, though perhaps a little clumsy and muzzle-heavy.

Simple linear regression Linear regression is a kooky term for fitting a line to some data. This odd bit of terminology can be blamed on Sir Francis Galton , a prolific victorian scientist and traveler who saw it as related to his concept of regression toward the mean. Calling it a linear model is a little more straight-forward, and linear modeling through the lm function is bread-and-butter to R.

It sounds like a blanket statement. However, it seems like almost daily I come across a news post, and columns in magazines and blogs dedicated to black folks, speaking about the glory of dating outside of the black community. And if they are not expounding on your personal choice on whom you date, than they are highlighting all the wonderful interracial couples in Hollywood. So yeah, excuse me if I generalize by saying that nobody talks more about interracial dating than black folks.

But while the topic has no doubt been beaten to death by the black media there are still no shortages of articles directed towards interracial relationships. So obviously these stories are very popular, which is why these publications continue to put them out. After all, stories mean page clicks, and page clicks equates to dollars. And if there are folks willing to read it, than you can place the blame solely on black media for continuing to cater to their audience. Which leads me to ask: Here is the standard disclaimer: Some people really do date outside of their race out of love and not some underlying motive.

Purely vegan One of the many things we love about living in Los Angeles is the incredible vegan food scene. We knew about many of the amazing vegan establishments before moving here, yet I don’t think we had a grasp on how far-stretching the food scene was, and how we would just love being right in the middle of it. We have literally had dozens, if not over , vegan meals in a restaurant or at a food truck since moving here last July.

I bring all of this up as recently in LA there has been news that the owners of some of the more popular vegan restaurants here have decided to slaughter animals at their farm and to sell the animal flesh. I am definitely disappointed. I personally can never imagine not being vegan. I don’t expect every vegan I know or hear of to always be vegan.

I call myself vegan. I’m not sure I am purely vegan, or a pure vegan. I suppose these terms mean different things to different people. I have not purposefully consumed animal products in over 20 years. There is a lot to think about in regards to whether or not I continue to eat at their establishments.
